Teerenpeli Distillery – Nordic pioneers in whisky and distilling

Founded in Lahti in 2002, Teerenpeli is one of the very first whisky distilleries in the Nordics – and still a proudly family-owned company.

What began as a passion for craft distilling has grown into an internationally acclaimed distillery, twice honoured as IWSC Worldwide Whiskey Producer of the Year (2020 and 2024).

At Teerenpeli, every whisky begins with crystal-clear groundwater from the protected Salpausselkä ridges, considered among the purest sources on earth.

Working closely with a world-renowned malthouse, we focus on high-quality malt as the foundation of our whiskies. While some specialty malts, such as peated malt, are sourced internationally, every expression carries the Nordic imprint of purity and craftsmanship.

Our whiskies mature in Finland’s northern climate, getting help with the seasons. The exceptional way of maturing whiskies in upcycled sea containers creates annual temperature variations from +5°C up to +30°C.

This rhythm of nature shapes flavour in ways unique to our land. With traditional Scottish copper pot stills and an uncompromising dedication to craft, we create whiskies that balance purity, fruit character and elegant cask influence.

The Story

The name Teerenpeli is an old Finnish expression for playful courtship and black grouses mating game, while Soidin refers to the dramatic mating rituals found in Nordic nature. Together, they capture the spirit of curiosity, tradition and discovery – values that define our distillery.

From Soidin’s smooth sherry-cask richness to its approachable, modern character, every bottle carries our Nordic quality seal: pure water from the Salpausselkä ridges, a focus on high-quality malt from trusted partners, and passionate craftsmanship. Teerenpeli is more than a distillery — it is a story of family, nature and award-winning heritage.
